Glossary

Ferritin:

A protein produced in the body, which stores iron in the cells so that it is not poisonous to the body. The largest amount of ferritin is found in the white blood cells and is usually measured in at-risk people, such as pregnant women and children in order to keep a look out for iron deficiency anemia or a deficiency in stored iron. An abundance of iron in the blood can also be determined. Ferritin is extracted either from the plasma or the serum and is quantified using Immune Enzyme Test Methods.

Whole Blood:

The blood as it comes out of the body.

Hemolytic:

One speaks of hemolytic serum when it is made unclean by the hemoglobin.
